March 6, 2015 – Masters Program

Workout of the Day
A.
Mental Preparation…You need to know which set is going to be your “main event.” One of the three-minute sets deserves your full attention – it’s the set that you MUST finish in order to achieve your goal. In that set you must commit to moving quickly through the first round of OHS and pull-ups, and reducing all possibility of getting caught a few reps shy of completing the round that you must finish to achieve your goal.

Invictus Guided Visualization – Set aside 10 minutes to sit in silence and listen to our Open Event 15.2 Guided Visualization by Heidi Fearon. Please click the link  to listen to a sample of last week’s visualization and to download the 15.2 Guided Visualization.

B.
Focused Mobility Work…lots of demands here that will require adequate range of motion from the ankles, hips, and shoulders. Do not neglect this aspect of your preparation. Spend the time needed to make sure you’re loose and ready to achieve your best, most efficient positions for a high volume of repetitions.

C.
90 seconds of Assault Bike or Watt Bike @ 75-80%
90 seconds of Assault Bike or Watt Bike @ 80-85%
90 seconds of Assault Bike or Watt Bike @ 85-90%

15.2 – 176 reps. 58 rep increase from last year. OHS not an issue this year. Thank you…

F/47 Redid this one today after doing a muscle up workshop on Saturday. Probably not the best idea, but in the long run learning my MU is worth it. So not as fresh as I was hoping, but still did 3 reps better than Friday. Which is not to say it was great, but at least those few reps better. I have a lot of work to do strengthening my OHS. 🙂 BUT! Last year I had barely started Crossfit and never had more than the bar overhead. Someone showed me how to back rack the bar so I could… Read more »

14.2 – 132

15.2
141 on Friday
193 on Sunday

My right hand is nasty! Today, the big thing was being super lazy in the 10’s and 12’s and never did a set of chest to bar greater than 3. Allowed me to avoid muscular fatigue in the C2B and get deep into the 16’s. Very pleased with this.

Now to attempt to doctor the grotty hand.

14.2 – 34
15.2 – 64

I remember how hard it was to stabilize my OHS position last year and how I had to fight for each C2B. Next step is to make it into the further rounds!

I got my first ctb on Monday so 15.2 didn’t go very well for me. I got 15 reps so very disappointed in myself

Do you have any suggestions on getting just 5 more ctb in to get me back into my ohs?

You have to be really aggressive during that set and get your hands back on the bar. Chalk less and push yourself into that zone of major discomfort to move quicker then you thought possible.

Did 15.2 Friday night – 133 reps vs. 106 for 14.2. Split up the C2B early, OHS were a grind for me. I wore Natural Grips also, so hands are good.

The good is it only took me one try to achieve last year’s number instead of 4 attempts. So I am a smarter athlete. The bad is I really wanted to break into those 14s. OHS UB, C2B singles.

Tried 15.2 yesterday…as I’ am on operational stand by didn’t have a real motivation to do it cause ton of things has to be done work wise. Anyhow, 140 reps….I was playing with tactics, braking OHS with a bar on my back even if I didn’t need to. Taking too much rest on C2B and so on. OHS was not a problem cause I did rounds of 14 unbroken. I had a bit of problems with c2b, couldn’t get into a rhythm. Well, now I’m sorry not to go all out on this one. At least I did this one… Read more »

Then the wheels came off!!
But, very pleased with this improvement.

HI all. So my Open journey has unexpectedly ended with an accident. While redoing 15.1 on Sunday I fell off the bar and landed on my head. Went to the hospital to discover I had fractured my skull, had some bleeding in brain, some bruising also, a hematoma, and a severe concussion. They kept me in hospital for four days to repeat CT scans and MRIs. Fortunately the fracture and bleeds did not worsen. I was allowed to come home yesterday on lots of meds. I have a follow up MRI next week with neurosurgeon. No work for next two… Read more »
