February 4, 2016 – Masters Open Prep

Recovery Day
A.
Mobility and Maintenance
* Choose 1-2 Thoracic Mobility Drills from Kelly Starrett’s Mobility WOD and spend 5-10 minutes with them.
* Choose 1-2 Upper Extremity Mobility Drills from Kelly Starrett’s Mobility WOD and spend 5-10 minutes with them.
* Choose 2-3 Lower Extremity Mobility Drills from Kelly Starrett’s Mobility WOD and spend 10-12 minutes with them.

B.
Nutrition Preparation

* Ensure that you have quality foods prepared in the appropriate quantities to fuel your efforts for the remainder of the week.

C.
Mental Restoration
* Different for everyone – could be meditation or could be gathering with friends; the key is to engage in activities that make your life full and help you recharge your batteries.

D.
Optional Additional Conditioning Session

Some of you may feel like your aerobic base needs to improve. If that is you then I highly recommend following the optional session on Thursday. If you feel like your aerobic base is dialed in then feel free to skip this optional work and instead spend the extra time focusing on mobility and food prep for the remainder of the week.

Warm Up:
This warm up should be 15-20 minutes that include running technique drills and general drom drills. Here are a few drills by Nuno Costa to try out.

Then…
800 meters easy run
10-15 minutes of dynamic stretching
3-4 Striders

Running Session:
To complete on a track:
1 minute of running; 2 minutes of rest

In 30 Minutes, cover as much distance as possible. Keep track of total laps.

Yesterday as a rest day.
Did yesterday’s today
A. done, then jerks 4@185. 3@195, 3@205
Felt good for most reps & was happy with the weight. Jerk is moving back up
B. 250, 285, 300, 320, 335, 365 (was using 355 as 1RM, so 365 is a PR–though I’ve done it in the past), finished with 5@320
C. no wall or rower today, so I did a 20:00 EMOM of 5 pull ups, 3 strict HSPU, 1 power clean @185

Comp Swim Program today. Drill and stroke count work. Felt good so I followed it up with the running session. All tracks here have a lot of snow on them, so I was regulated to a treadmill. Got 2 miles in.

Did 14.4 today trying to catch up after snowstorm. Got 184. ONE rep more than 2 years ago. 🙁 Was surprised how long it took to get to the rings. Finished 20 MUs to get practice. Took 19 min. I’ll keep plugging away at those pesky MUs!

Thanks nichole. Really happy with the jerk, thats for sure and also the wod. I set myself a goal of 10MU. Which if this is the repeat wod for the open i reckon i can get it, i also timed all the exercises to see where i can improve on them.

60 minutes of yoga this morning as well as a visit to the chiropractor to put me back together. No conditioning today as I going to allow my hips a day to relax and recover.
