Spotlight on Invictus Youth: Bowen Hopkins
Interview by Bryan Miller
Meet this month’s Athlete Spotlight, 14 year old Bowen Hopkins. At a booming 6’0, he’s a rising 9th grade fitness phenom who trains at CrossFit Boro and competes in weightlifting and CrossFit. Bowen finished 5th overall in the Teenage Boys 14-15 in the South East Region during the 2016 CrossFit Open. If you haven’t seen Bowen on the blog yet, be sure to say hello.
When and where do you train, Bowen?
I train at CrossFit Boro. I usually train just once a day during the school year and then ALL DAY during the summer!
What is your nutrition like?
I’m 14 years old so I don’t really have a “diet” – and it’s great! I eat just as much as I can as long as it’s pretty clean!
What was the first workout you ever did in CrossFit?
“Grace”
What is your favorite thing to do outside of CrossFit?
Hang out with friends at the beach or do any chill, outdoor activity.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Haha not that I know of but I am always learning about myself!
If there is one weakness that you are still working to overcome, what is it?
Breaking mental barriers.
Do you have any superstitions or rules related to competing and/or training?
Always wear my wrist wraps and tape my thumbs! Also the phrase, “Look Good, Perform Better!”
What is your biggest goal?
To win my age division as a Teen Athlete at the CrossFit Games!
Do you have any favorite movies?
James Bond
What is one thing about you hardly anyone knows?
I love cooking!
Name one place you are dying to visit and why.
San Diego; I’ve already been there but I’m obsessed!
