Snap Pull Drill for Ring Muscle-Ups
Video by Travis Ewart
Ring muscle-ups seem very complicated to the untrained eye. There is a lot of mystery behind this movement, and with my next few blogs we are going to break the muscle-up apart, piece by piece.
What is a “snap pull”? Sounds kind of silly, but we have to give it a name to be able to talk about it. The snap pull is the very quick blur of the rings you see before an athlete kips into their muscle-up. This movement is not easily recognizable to the untrained eye, and sometimes even when looking right at it you can miss it! Though it may be such a seemingly small movement, this backward pull on the rings can prevent your feet from flinging higher than the rings for a no rep, or even worse, the position that leaves your knees by your chest, butt down beneath the rings, and no chance of you getting your shoulders above the rings enough to complete the move, ugly or not!
