A word from our winner…
“First and foremost thank you for selecting my design, this is an honor that I will cherish. When I saw the opportunity to create an Invictus CrossFit shirt design I had to jump at it. I had given it a lot of thought and wanted to design something that was powerful, yet engaging—the more you look at it the more you see. At the same time, it was a shirt design—it needed to be striking and memorable right away!
The “Sea of Green” has always stood out to me—I had to make a play on it. So I drew a ship with the big V on its sail riding a sea of green! There are ropes on a ship, and there are ropes in CF, so it has a rope border; other CF icons I have included are barbells holding the flags: 10 Year Legacy, kettlebells, and a 10 kg weight plate—which really are Green!—with the text TEN STRAIGHT GAMES. And near the bottom are the three teams to make it to Madison this year. (GO INVICTUS!!!)
The word Invictus is synonymous with “Unconquerable” which I love! So I had to have that in there big. When I think of Invictus the gym/business: I think of power, strength, and leaders! I think a mighty ship with its Captain purging forward represents that culture. Also a nod to where both Invictus’ are located!
I have been doing graphic design since 2004. I started CMDesign Graphics in 2007 and made it my full-time gig in 2011. However, my best job title is “Dad”. My family always comes first and I love spending time with them. I have a 6-year-old boy named Roman and 2-year-old twin girls, Raelynn and Jaden.
As far as my athletic background, in college, I was a defensive lineman for the Linfield Wildcats football team and we won the National Championship in 2004; I also threw the shot put, discus and hammer for the track team. With all my accolades and MVPs I thought I was a good athlete… until I met my wife, Dani Miles! She was—and still is—the school record holder in the discus for Linfield College, All-American, MVPs, etc. We married in 2006 and found CrossFit in 2010. While I turned out to be mostly good at lifting heavy objects, she excelled at everything! After having our son, she made the 2013 and 2014 Northwest Regionals. Then again returned after having TWINS in 2015 for the 2017 and 2018 West Regionals. I feel like being a CrossFitter helps me design for CrossFitters and affiliate owners because I get “it”. The IT that drives CrossFitters to kill themselves in a workout, just to wake up and do it again!
I absolutely love graphic design and I love sports! Together, that’s my dream job! Designing for sports teams and CrossFit affiliates from posters, logos to shirt designs is what I love to do. I am so excited to see the ‘Sea of Green’ wearing this Unconquerable Legacy shirt!! Thank you!”
