It’s Game Face Time for Invictus Member Kyla Casey
Written by Kirsten Ahrendt

Kyla is a former Irish Step Dancer champion (legitimately) and a current 2nd year resident in emergency medicine in the US Navy. She has been working HARD over the past year+ that I’ve known her as a member of Invictus – spending weeks at a time away from her home to do rotations at a hospital hours away.

During this pandemic, she has remained steadfast in her service. She elected to self-quarantine early so as to keep herself, co-workers and other gym members safe. Kyla is extremely dedicated to her profession and the path to becoming the best doctor she can be. She is still serving those in need at the hospital during this emergency. Thank you, Kyla!

Q: What’s been the most difficult for you to deal with during this pandemic?

Kyla mentioned the mental aspect as being a hurdle she is conquering lately. Second year residency is extremely demanding, and a pandemic doesn’t make it easier. To refocus and maintain health, she has set a goal to move/workout 4 days a week, which she says has helped! *movement is medicine, guys!*

Good to know…

Kyla’s Monday manifesto:

“Arrive to shift with my ‘game face’ on, believe in my instinct and knowledge, exude confidence.”

…Uh…HELL YA! Thanks for the STRAIGHT FIRE, Kyla. I think we could all implement some of those manifestations regardless of our profession. It certainly inspired me this week. Thanks for your service during this emergency.

Coach’s Note: Kyla is standing next to her sister in this photo. She is a pilot in the Marines. When they are both in the gym together, they have the most fun I’ve ever seen siblings have while working out.
