Fun with Furniture Sliders – Hamstring Curls
Written by Michele Vieux
Are you limited on space, equipment or time? Need some ideas for travel workouts? Or maybe you’re just looking for something new to incorporate into your routine. Behold, the furniture slider! It’s not just for moving furniture anymore! These babies are inexpensive, take up only a sliver of space in a suitcase, and pack a punch when it comes to the things you can do with them.
Today’s exercise is the Furniture Slider Hamstring Curl, which can be done as a double or single-leg exercise. Benefits of this exercise include glute and hamstring activation. You will need two sliders for this drill – here’s how to set it up.
Step 1: Lay on your back with your legs extended and place a furniture slider under each heel. Keep your shoulders and head pressed into the floor while you drive your heels down and your glutes up so that your butt, lower back and legs come up off the floor. Once you do this, they should not touch the ground again for the entire set.
Step 2: Pull your heels to your butt while you squeeze your hips to the sky. Your hips should remain open which means they should not bend.
Step 3: Return to your original position by sliding your heels back out so your legs are straight but do not let them, your lower back or butt touch the floor.
To make this exercise more challenging, you can alternate legs and only move one at a time, holding the same standards above. Nothing touches the floor besides your feet, head and shoulders during the movement.
Amazon.com sells 4-packs of the large sliders for $10 so this is a cost-effective solution for equipment. Stay tuned for more Fun with Furniture Sliders in the upcoming weeks!
Frisbees work pretty good too.
