Bon Voyage to the Hollywoods!
Interview by Jaimie Bougie
Jaimie: You guys have been members of Invictus since the very beginning – why do you have to leave us?!?!
Nancy: Orders are orders. Like the rest of your military clientele, eventually, we get called to another duty station. While I am excited to go back to DC, one of the biggest “cons” about leaving San Diego for me is Crossfit Invictus and the community. When we got to San Diego in late 2008, Jim was already an avid Crossfitter, and I wanted him to join a Crossfit affiliate before I left on deployment. He was familiar with CJ and a few others and followed them to Invictus. When I got back from deployment, the Invictus team immediately embraced me as a member of the family. It’s going to be hard to let go of something so good!!!!!
Jim: Just as Nancy stated, we got a new set of marching orders. Plus I am retiring from the Navy after 24 years and looking forward to a new start, so the move to DC is bitter sweet. I have been a member of Invictus since almost the beginning. I will miss the comraderie, competition, and friendships I have made. I hope to find a place that comes somewhat close to Invictus.
Jaimie: What life lessons have you learned from the Lumleys? (From Coach Nichole)
Nancy: Life lessons from the Lumleys? Simple — confirmation that you only get better as you age!!! Seriously, the Lumleys have been great friends the past 3 years, even though we don’t see them too often outside of Invictus — we connect because of Invictus.
Jim: Barry and Cynthia have been workout partners from the beginning. They are great people. They have a good attitude and we get along. Barry hits the workout hard even with bad knees. In addition, he is a retired Navy Chief so we immediately bonded. Cynthia makes her own workouts some days. And I like to harass her and give her a hard time whenever possible. This is an example of what Invictus is.
Jaimie: Have you decided which Crossfit you will call home once you move to DC?
Jim: We have looked at which CF gyms are close to the house but have not gone to any yet. I plan on going to the free weekend class to get a feel for the gym. It will be very hard to find one as complete as Invictus.
Nancy: This is like trying to find the right “hairdresser” – women will understand what I mean about that! Even though I’ve been in DC for a couple of weeks already, I haven’t been able to force myself to go without Jim — I need my wingman!
Jaimie: Which music station in the mornings did you love working out to? (From Coach Nuno)
Jim: I am not exactly sure of the station name but something along the lines of Death Metal, Power Metal or Workout Rock, George would know he used to dial it in for me at 0600 class.
Nancy: I like most that Jim listed, but also liked to hear the 80s too!
Jaimie: What is your favorite warm up exercise and what was your favorite workout? (From Coach Nuno)
Jim: My favorite warm-up is the reverse power skip… NOT! I like the reverse lung with a twist. It really gets me to stretch my hips. I also enjoy stretching with the band assist. For the workout, I like Annie and Grace because they are over rather quickly. The one I do not like was the 12 days of X-mas that took me 2 plus hours to finish.
Nancy: Spiderman crawls — I used to hate them, but after Tough Mudder, I found out how helpful it was to be able to move low to the ground crawling under something! Favorite workout: Too many to name!
(Please join us on Saturday, November 3 to send Jim and Nancy off. The workout will be “The Chief” in honor of these Navy chiefs.)
I got what you intend, thanks for swing up. Woh I am pleased to hit this website finished google. Thanks For Share 301 Moved Permanently.
Jim & Nancy – Good luck and best wishes in DC.
Best of Luck on the Right Coast!! I know you guys were part of that 6am class just thing how early you can post results now!! We will miss you but know you will carry the Invictus spirit with you wherever you go.
Jim, I look to your 6am scores every morning for a benchmark goal: You’re kind of my hero, and an inspiration to all of us “40-somethings”. Now what the hell am I gonna do???
Best of luck to you both!
Thanks Shaver, I gotta keep the young bucks in check.
awww, say it ain’t so, you guys will definitely be missed!
Nancy / Jim
It is sad to see you guys Have to leave.
I hope you have a great going away party and a safe move.
Best of luck, hope to see you back in Cali one day though!
Noooooo!
Jim and Nancy, you’re as much a part of Invictus as anyone I’ve met. You guys are not just there for the WODs but for every fundraiser, neighborhood event, and even the Relay for Life cancer walks and non-Invictus activities that make the gym so much more than just a place to work out.
Best of luck to you both and its been a pleasure. See you Saturday
So sad:( We will miss you friends! Maybe we can come visit…
Please do look us up if you guys are ever in town.
Now it’s my turn to cry! I’m sad that you guys won’t be there when I come back for work once a month–it’s been fun working out with you both in the morning, and the 6am class won’t be the same without you. Best of luck in DC, and I will definitely be in touch when I head out that way on business travel. And Jim, congratulations on your retirement! Are you going to be like George and go for the whole first year as a civilian without a haircut? 🙂
I might not shave or shower too…
This is a bummer! Loved seeing you guys at the 6 am class!
BIG BONUS to Jim’s love for death metal as well!
all the best,
bob (and ginger)
Ugh….this is the hardest goodbye yet. You two have made 6 a.m. so much fun. I will miss you so much!!!
xoxo
Cynthia
Best of luck to you on the east coast! Invictus won’t be the same without you!
