Day Three Movement Standards
Clean & Jerk – This movement begins with the barbell on the ground. The top position will be successfully achieved when the athlete demonstrates control of the barbell in a fully extended overhead position – the barbell overhead directly aligned over the shoulders, hips and ankles. Athletes may use any means of getting the barbell overhead that they choose.
Deadlift – The deadlift must be performed with the hands outside the knees. Sumo deadlifts are not allowed. Starting at the floor, the barbell is lifted until hips and knees reach full extension with the shoulders behind the barbell. The arms must be straight throughout.
Bar-Facing Burpees Over the Barbell – Each burpee must be performed perpendicular to and facing the barbell. The athlete’s head cannot be over the barbell. The chest and thighs touch the ground at the bottom. The athlete must jump over the barbell from both feet and land on both feet. One-footed jumping or stepping over is not permitted. The next rep will begin on the opposite side facing the barbell. Standard-sized bumper plates must be used on the barbell.
Assault Bike – The Assault Bike will be set for calories. Athlete must stay seated until the monitor shows that the athlete has reached the prescribed number of calories.
Thrusters – This is a standard barbell thruster in which the barbell moves from the bottom of a squat with the barbell in the front rack position to full lockout overhead. The hip crease must pass below the knees. A squat clean into the thruster is allowed if the bar is on the ground. At the top, the barbell must be over the center of the body with the hips, knees and arms fully extended.
Strict Handstand Push-Up – This movement begins at the top of a handstand with the arms fully locked out, the heels on the wall and the hips open with the body in line with the arms. The hands must be placed within a clearly marked area. The marked area must be a 36-by-24-inch box, and the palm of the hand must be placed within the clearly marked area (fingers may extend out of the box). At the bottom of each rep, the athlete’s head must touch the mat. At the top of each rep, the athlete must return to a fully locked out position with the heels on the wall and the feet within the width of the marked area. Kipping is not allowed. The athlete’s hips may not touch the wall, and their legs must remain straight.
Ring Muscle-Ups – In the bottom position the athlete must hang with fully extended elbows. At the top position the athlete must fully extend the elbows with the shoulder directly above the wrist and elbow. Kipping is allowed, but swings or rolls to support are not permitted. If the heels rise above the bottom of the rings during the kip, it is a no rep.
Day 3 – Completed Friday

Pretty happy with my scores considering this was one of the most stressful weeks of work/business for me of the year! Wish I could’ve followed along with everyone and posted my scores. Time for recovery and relaxation!

Event 11 was a brutal workout that made me realize I can be good a some movements but need to focus on my upper body endurance. It was a great comp this year and it was fun to be able to do it. Thank you all for everything. Always remember shins against the bar. Chest up. Eyes open.

I end this competition like most – I can hang and be competitive in most things and then I get buried so far in the ground with one or two events. Not looking for any sympathy, just a quick vent. It’s frustating because I do work on these movements a lot.
Anyways as always I have a blast doing this every year. Thank you Invictus for all that you do for us as athletes. I’m especially thankful and proud to be apart of the distant family. Eyes on 2018
It may take 5 or even 8 years to get that one year that makes it all worth it. But Keep grinding. Keep working no matter what.
Great work man.
We all have our weaknesses brother. You and I have been training in here for two plus years. I still can’t lift any weight and I’m assuming it was the SHSPU that got you. After this year I’m going to just focus on lifting and having fun. It’s not fun anymore right now for me. Just to many set backs and to high of expectations for myself. Maybe you need some time to focus on yourself too. You are a wicked good athlete and everone knows it! I’m not an optimistic person, if you have weaknesses you need to destroy… Read more »
I think the question you should always ask is “are they getting better and are you bridging the gap in your weakness in relation to the rest of the field?” If the answer is yes then your doing everything right. I remember it was ctb that caused issues, but look at you know. You’re a ninja at those.
Progress doesn’t come easy and I know you’re putting the work in to make sure those weaknesses become strength just like your CTB.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks coach ! You always know what to say. And yes I am getting better so all is good. I just get competitively frustrated but still happy with the 3 days of workouts. Thank you again
The good thing about your clean and jerk being lame, is that event 10 is light 🙂 Event 9) 150. I cleaned 155 twice but failed jerk. Max is 155, which I’ve only done once Event 10) 2:58 with 150 lbs Event 11) 17:15. The hspu were much harder than I anticipated and slowed me down. I think the standard is more narrow than what i normally do!!!? I’m pretty disappointed in how the competition went for me, I feel I didn’t/couldn’t give 100%. I blame being sick the last two weeks and not eating the whole week before it…… Read more »

A huge thank you to the entire invictus team for the work you do. I train alone in my garage but I do not feel like it because I have the community and I really find the program that suits me. I have really seen good progress since I started programming. Thank you for being so present for us.

Was supposed to fly back to MSP Tuesday night. Ended up getting delayed overnight in Detroit ?. Have gotten maybe five hours of on again off again sleep (7 am flight), so I think I’m going to plan to finish this up Thursday before 5.
P.S. thank you for putting the assault bike in again ?
Always thinking of you when we Program. Safe travels!
Coach Tino…bro?…assault bike…again?!?!? Is it Monday…or Friday tomorrow?

You own that thing?…I on the other hand, am owned by it! I’ll be riding…?
hahahah I love this sketch! The assault bike is the best piece of fitness equipment ever made, we would hate to see it go to waste. Have fun and enjoy the pain because I know deep down you all do.
