35:53. 50 strict pull ups, 50 WB, 50 burpee box jump over 24″. 70# dumbells for the carries. 300 meters.

Carries were awful. I can’t even hold my dogs leash to walk them. Forearms are gone.

Did yesterday’s workout. It looked like a doozy, so I had to do it: 3 Rounds Rx — Work/Rest Ratio 1:1 (Minus starting with the bar off the ground; too weak, so I took it off the rack.) A1. Row 500 Meters (under 2’00” each round) A2. Front Squat: 225 x 8 (PR), 225 x 8 (PR), 225 x 8 (PR) 3 Rounds Rx — Work/Rest Ratio 1:1 Round 1: 3’17” Round 2: 3’05” Round 3: Disqualified — heard a loud pop and pain in my right knee on the third rep coming right out of the squat. Did the… Read more »

Oh no! How is it feeling now? Which part of your knee?

Hey Amber! Thanks for checking in on me! It seems to be right below the patella, on the outside part of the knee (see pic). The only position I feel comfortable with any kind of flexion right now is in a quadruped position, which definitely feels tender once I hit full flexion. Fortunately I don’t feel any “catching” in that position though. Any thoughts or advice? My hope is to see how it feels in the next 48 hours and test a squat come Monday. If it doesn’t get better or feel the same pain, then an MRI is probably… Read more »

You mentioned previous meniscus tear. Same leg? Same feeling? Maybe you just had some abnormal cartilage under your patella. (Here’s to positive thinking!!!) Whatever it is, play it smart, but don’t give up. I have a guy in his 50’s tore meniscus in both knees, (seperate occassions last one about 8 months ago) and pr’d his back squat last week. My husband tore his biceps tendon picking up our dog 9 months ago and is rocking his strict pullups now and built some nice lower body strength 🙂

Different leg, same feeling, but worse. I tore my left meniscus back in 2006 while doing, get this… DANCING. Apparently I’m not built to choreographing hip hop LOL. I’m ?? it’s abnormal cartilage and that you’re right!

Damn Teddy that blows. I hope you feel better. Try to get it looked at ASAP. When I tore my ACL two years ago I tried to avoid going to the doc and that just wasted valuable recovery time. Hope you feel better and hoping for the best. Good luck.

Yeah man, I’m pretty bummed to be honest. I appreciate the encouragement though brother, it means a lot. I was planning on walking home from the gym right after it happened, but I was so sad I had my wife come pick me up instead ? ? . I’ll keep you posted once I figure out what to do, but a trip to the doc almost seems like a no-brainer at this point. Thanks again Will!

Cool try to keep your spirits up no matter what. I went through some serious depressions when I tore my ACL. Not being able to do anything for a month or so was rough. Find the positive. Now you can get a jacked upper body. That’s basically what I did. I became a wizard at pull ups, dips, and bench. Hopefully it’s nothing serious though.

Is your pain where you circle or below the patella on your other post? If you squat without weight do you get the popping? Any locking or catching with unweighted squats/stairs? Meniscus tear same leg or opposite knee. Sorry my PT side comes out when I see injuries….

Hey Britt! Thanks for checking in! I’d say it’s literally right below the patella on the outside. I woke up this morning, and I can’t even lift my leg two inches off the ground without feeling complete stiffness and pain. In other words, I can’t even squat if I wanted to 🙁 It hurts to go upstairs or downstairs, and this is my right knee (I tore the lateral and medial meniscus of my left knee years ago and had a lot of it surgically removed). What do you think? I tried self-administering McMurray’s Test for kicks and giggles, but… Read more »

ok disclaimer.. I am a DPT but I’m not giving you “PT Advice” as I likely don’t hold a license in your state which prohibits me from doing that. However, if a hypothetical patient came to me with these symptoms. 1. more than likely you have swelling in the joint which is why you can’t lift you leg and it’s stiff all at the same time. 2. if it’s right under the patella it could be the patella tendon vis the meniscus. 3. the fact that you can’t do a straight leg raise is likely do to swelling…ummm McMurray’s to… Read more »

No worries Britt! So here’s what I got: (1) My knee feels slightly unstable when I go from sitting to trying to put full weight on it. Once I’m standing for a couple of minutes though the knee no longer feels unstable. (2) So two part answer to your question, with a caveat… I actually feel pain in two different areas: —Outside of my knee: it’s only when I press my finger onto the outside of my knee is when I feel tenderness (and slight pain) in that area. With flexion I really don’t feel pain there. —Right below the… Read more »

No worries Britt!

I read your other post about starting deployment soon, so I understand you’re busy! Thanks again for checking up on me!

My knee hasn’t improved an ounce since I injured it on Saturday 🙁 You’ll hate me for this, but I’ve been WebMD’ing my life away since. Unfortunately I still can’t walk, and I can’t straighten my leg fully.

I just had an MRI today and meeting with an orthopedic surgeon this upcoming week, hopefully with GOOD NEWS.

Can you weight bear. Can you stand on it. I just got back from deployment, I’m on post deployment leave. Damn ortho in. Week that’s a new concept I usually keep patients for a month before they can even get in. If you can’t bear weight I’d be concerned about a tibial plateau stress fx or straight up fx. Sometimes people can bend sometimes they can’t. It would be super random to have AcL damage as you were doing a planted twist motion. Could be the meniscus but you should be able to do a straight leg raise. Did webmd… Read more »

WebMD always tells me I have testicular cancer ? I can bear weight on that leg, and x-rays came back negative. I can bend and lift my leg only about 8 inches off the ground until I start feeling tightness, tension, and pain right below the kneecap. Do you think it could be a partial tear of the Patellar Tendon? I’ve already made up my mind that it is ? I just don’t know how my meniscus would tear when I wasn’t twisting you know? Also, I took this entire week off from lifting since I didn’t have crutches, but… Read more »

Tibial plateau fx usually show up on Bone scan or MRI. Yes it could be a patellar tendon tear those would be the two most likely causes. I guess I should have said can you bear weight without pain?

Since my job is taking thing away I always have to have a way to make people sane! Did you try the tape?

I can bear weight with no pain.

And I just added rock tape to my Amazon wish list! So you’re saying a tibial plateau fracture wouldn’t have shown up on an x-ray then?

Could the pop and shearing pain I experienced squatting be any indicator as to which one is more likely, whether a bone fracture or a tear?

Yes tibial plateau fx go unnoticed and then get called stress fx until an ortho sees it. I just had a patient the MD was checking for meniscus tear and accidentally found the fx. But usually you would have pain after weight bearing to much.

Patellar tendon could be the problem.

Can you do a quad set? If so can you do a straight leg raise?

That’s good to know!

So I can do a quad set. No pain or problems. The only thing that happens after I squeeze my quad is a super small “clicking” noise in the knee. Not painful, but not sure if that noise was there before the injury.

I can do a straight leg raise lying down and standing without a problem. New day, but still the same pain when I try to bend my leg 🙁

Clicking can be roughing of the under surface of patella especially f you have swelling in the joint. It’s usually the patella “falling of its tracks” kinda like a train but the patella can get itself back on. Did you get your results yet? Still in that patella tendon area. You can try some of my voodoo magic (not real voodoo just what I call it) Freeze a paper cup 1/2-3/4 full of H2O then freeze. Once it’s frozen tear down a little of the cup so ice is sticking out the rub it in small circle in the area… Read more »

Falling off the tracks sounds horrible. I want my knee to be on the tracks!

So I finally had my MRI done, and have an appointment next Tuesday at 1:30 pm. Fortunately my doc is one the physicians for the Dallas Cowboys, so I’m hoping he has a decent understanding of exercise type injuries.

Thanks again for all the help Britt. You rock! I’ll keep you posted next week with the results!

Found out and it’s a lateral meniscus tear. That’s better than a patella injury right?! LOL

I won’t know the extent of the injury until Tuesday though… wish me luck! Also, would I be causing further injury if I bent the leg in some modified lifts (ie: hang muscle snatch)?

If you can’t bend your knee full range you shouldn’t be adding weight ?

Bucket handle or lateral fray?!?
I’ve had a meniscus tear for almost 10 years, just did therapy on my self and have rare flare ups… but it all depends on tear

Base gym has been closed since Thanksgiving so I did a workout from earlier in the week that I miss but adjusted for the weights I had

4 rds
24 DB snatch 20# DB-( it was supposed to be 14 alt snatch at 35# but since I only had 20# DB I double reps to make it about the same load)
14 abd mat situps
400m run

The dog was my “partner today”, after the first round of running she became puppy resistance training at 85#…very helpful partner!
