Fun with Furniture Sliders: Single-Arm Push-Ups

Fun with Furniture Sliders: Single-Arm Push-Ups
Written by Michele Vieux

Are you limited on space, equipment or time? Need some ideas for travel workouts? Or maybe you’re just looking for something new to incorporate into your routine. Behold, the furniture slider! It’s not just for moving furniture anymore! These babies are inexpensive, take up only a sliver of space in a suitcase, and pack a punch when it comes to the things you can do with them.

Today’s exercise is the Furniture Slider Single-Arm Push-Up. Benefits of this exercise are shoulder strength and stability, bicep work, tricep work, and hollow body/midline stability. You will need one slider for this drill – here’s how to set it up.

Step 1: Get yourself into a perfect plank with a furniture slider under one hand. Your focus should be on externally rotating your shoulders; i.e. elbow pits forward, as well as a hollow body position.

Step 2: Lower yourself to the bottom of a push-up with your plant hand (the one not on the slider) while you slide your other arm out to one side, trying to keep it as straight as possible.

Step 3: Drag your sliding hand back to position while you press with your plant hand so you end up back at the top of the push-up with both arms extended into the floor.

Amazon.com sells 4-packs of the large sliders for $10 so this is a cost-effective solution for equipment. Stay tuned for more Fun with Furniture Sliders in the upcoming weeks!

Used them on our last vacation. Really enjoyed the workout they offer for hotel gyms. Thanks @cj_martin:disqus
