Doing the Sport She Loves: Lauren “Lil Fish” Fisher!
Interview by Nichole DeHart
Lauren Fisher has been doing CrossFit since she was 16 years old. However, she did CrossFit to help her in other sports, like basketball. She didn’t start competing until she was 18, when she qualified for the NorCal Regional as an Individual; the following year, she participated on Team Invictus at the 2013 CrossFit Games. This year she is heading to the CrossFit Games as an Individual. Lauren has worked extremely hard to earn her spot at Games, qualifying in one of the toughest regions! We are so proud of our Lil Fish!
Nichole: How did you become a part of the Sea of Green?
Lauren: I was planning on attending San Diego State University in the Fall of 2012 and I was looking for a CrossFit nearby. I heard a lot of good things about how amazing the coaching and community was at Invictus, so I got introduced to CJ at the 2012 NorCal Regional where I was competing. After that, I got invited to a camp that summer with all the Games athletes and never looked back!
Nichole: What was your athletic background before CrossFit?
Lauren: I played high school basketball, tennis, and volleyball. Growing up, I did soccer, gymnastics, dance, swim, and softball. I pretty much have tried out every sport possible!
Nichole: This is your first time to the CrossFit Games as an Individual; what are you most looking forward to?
Lauren: I’m looking forward to competing versus some of the best athletes in the world and to see where I rank. But most importantly I am looking forward to having fun doing the sport I love.
Nichole: How has being a part of the Sea of Green helped you compete?
Lauren: The Sea of Green has no idea how much they mean to us when we are out there competing. Looking up and knowing that you have that support system behind you is huge! It really helps you keep pushing when there is nothing left. I don’t know what I would do without the Sea of Green community!
Nichole: What workout would you be so happy to see at the CrossFit Games?
Lauren: A long ocean swim! I don’t think there is a specific workout, but maybe something with heavy deadlifts and handstand pushups.
Nichole: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?
Lauren: I visualize the workouts the night before, how I’m going to do every single rep and move throughout the workout. Positive thinking, good music, and mobilizing are essential.
Nichole: What is one tip you would give to someone who is looking to become a more competitive CrossFitter?
Lauren: Find a knowledgeable coach, surround yourself with good training partners who are going to push you every day, train your weaknesses, and have fun!
Nichole: How has becoming an Invicti helped you improve inside the gym and outside the gym?
Lauren: By being an Invicti, I have really embraced the mantra ‘Full Effort Is Full Victory,’ whether it is at school or in the gym. Whatever it is in my life, I will always work to do my best.

Not to rain on her parade or anything, but Crossfit is a joke. What the crap is up with those fake pull ups. Looks like she’s having a seisure. I can’t believe people take this serious as if it is a real sport. Must make girls like this feel “important” about themselves or something.
